Hello all I am new here to the web-site and I have a few questions on a piece of mail I recieved. I own a 1996 ford explorer and a 1993 ford ranger. I recieved a recall notice on the explorer something about the Speed control system modification, can anyone tell me what this is?
thank you diana

Welcome Diana...

The recall was to fix a fault in the cruise control system. When you tap the brakes to turn it off, there is a solenoid in the engine compartment that turns off the cruise control.

The part itself tended to corrode/leak, and could leak even if the truck is turned off and let brake fluid seep into the wiring of the switch that was powered all the time even if the truck is parked. That caused fires (see below), so Ford is recalling them to fix the problem

If you take your truck(s) in, they will most likely add a jumper harness with a fuse that would go between the old wiring harness and the solenoid plug, so if something shorts, it blows the fuse and the truck won't catch on fire.

It is about a 10 minute job at the dealership, no big deal...

Here is a page about it... http://www.switchfires.com/

Don't want this to happen:
