Hello All, I'm a retired Aviation Mech. Always fixing something, and buying broken projects, some times cars, sometimes boats. As I'm a senior citizen now, I usually get my nephew to help with the projects and repairs.
I buy mostly Ford cars and trucks. Only one has been new, and the others have been wrecked, impounds or broken. I have owned an 87 Aerostar (Had rolled onto side), a 94 Ranger 4X4 (New), a 97 Explorer 4X4 AWD (Purchased from impound yard), and my newest, an 03 Explorer 4X4 (Found on Craigslist with blown HG and 200K).
For me the 2003 is a planned upgrade from the 97. My 97 although still very strong(V8), it had lots of other issues. I felt it was time to start with a newer vehicle. This model has the V6 with Vin K. It has very little visible rust, and the body looks straight and the interior is great.
On the night before XMas when all through the house, creatures were stirring, 6 people 3 dogs and a mouse, my nephew removed the tired engine with care, then placed it on a stand in hopes that St Nick would soon be there. I left the requisite cookies and a note. I had hoped Santa would leave a rebuild kit under my tree. Although I did not get a lump of coal, I guess I'll have to purchase the kit on my own.
My machinist tells me that the Vin K is a real beast to work on. I got a new Chiltons for this generation Explorer. I've joined this forum because I already know that sometimes you have to ask question from people who have been there and done that.
