Volant has finally released their kit for the SOHC after months of "next week" promises. It looks very much like the kit shown at Explorer Underground, but it lost the plexiglass cover. Check it out at

My question is whether it is that much better than a stock air box with the front cut out. Really, the difference is the hose between throttle body and MAS and replacing the flat filter with a cone filter.

I cut the front of my stock air box open and I was impressed with the improvement, especially since it only cost me dremel and sanding time (yeah, I could have skipped sanding the edges, but I'm funny like that). I'm not sure I'll see $250 worth of horsepower with the Volant kit, although it looks pretty damn cool. I am probably better off with an exhaust instead of the Volant.

Since you already cut your airbox, i would get the dual exhaust. Thats what I did.

Anyone got one of these yet?

Has anyone hooked up a Volant Intake yet... i'm hella curious as to how much improvement it has over a KKM.
Thanx

Um, what does it do? It looks just like the stock intake except it has a smooth bore.

even if it is better than the KKM (im not saying that it is), is it worth spending 2 1/2 times the $$$. a KKM is about $100. for $250 that better be a hell of a lot better/

I can't imagine the improvement between the stock air box with a K&N and the KKM intake is that different, and for that matter, the difference between the KKM and Volant intakes is that different either. I would love to see a dyno test on these mods and see where the meat is.

How do you value the Volant? To me the additional price over the KKM is the value of the CARB approval.

That's the reason I just cut the front of the airbox. It should be getting more cooler air than the KKM.
