- 2010 4.6L Eddie Bauer
We can still taste the lead in our mouths, but we bit the bullet and bought our 2010 4.6L Eddie Bauer. After several pickups over the years, I wanted the last of the truck platform Explorers now that they have dropped it onto the Tauris platform (how could they do that!?)
This will be our travel car as we continue our 55 years of driving throughout the continent. It replaces a motorhome and toad, which replaced several truck campers before. Now we can get back to those off highway roads and back country mountain passes, we’ve always enjoyed, with ease.
We’ll be making the mods necessary to allow for camping (sleeping platform with cargo storage) and making it capable for Moab class 5 trails. Looks like we’re keeping the 98 TJ for the more challenging trails.
In May, she will do the Idaho/Oregon leg of the Oregon Trail and finish up the trail in the Fall from Independence MO to Pocatella ID as part of a 7 week run to the East coast (our fifth).
We live in the southern interior of BC and have enjoyed the roads from Inuvik NWT to San Diego CA and from Port Alberni BC to many points on the eastern seaboard, over several decades. Virgin territory is still Alaska and the SE states. It’s our 50th wedding anniversary this August and we plan to enjoy it with our new rig exploring the back roads.
