New member here in the market for an Explorer. Not sure if I would like to pick up a 2002-2005 generation or a 2006 model. What does everyone recommend? I'd like to spend under $10K, but that is negotiable for the right vehicle.

Thanks,

Chris

I have not test driven any as of yet. My dad used to have a 1997 that I liked, but I have never driven anything newer. Do the 2002-2005 differ much in ride quality from the 2006+?

Things that are important to me are that it has the towing package as I ride dirt bikes and tow my enclosed trailer to different locations in Texas about once a month. Leather would be nice, but I wouldn't be opposed to putting aftermarket leather in given the right deal. Also, the third row isn't really needed, but would be a nice added bonus.

Thanks,

Chris

Get a V8 if you plan on doing a lot of towing.

Even if my trailer fully loaded with bikes is under 3,000 lbs? I don't know for sure, but I would assume the v6 could handle that size load pretty well.
