Hi, glad to find an active Explorer forum. Just bought a 1998 Sport with low miles. It's great, except that I have a noise under the front that is a thud, when I turn sharply or brake hard. For instance, if I snake down the road turning left and right, the underside is going thud, thud...

If this was another car I was familiar with, I'd guess engine mount or shocks. Does this sound like a common Explorer problem?

Thanks, Bobby

wow that is hella hella low miles for a 98 how much u got it for. Do u got pics of it at all

does it make a difference if u hit a bump in the road or not. sounds to me like maybe either a shock/ strut or ur inner tie rod.

Check the stabilizer bar attachments. Look under the front of the truck and make sure everything is properly attached to the control arms. Hard to miss that big bar! They are known to break and fail. You can shake the truck while looking making sure everything is attached.
