just purchased a 2003 explorer xlt 4.0 108700 miles. pick it up tomorrow. know all about the bad trans.issues -- looking for suggestions as to best proactive actions to take to prevent issues -ie fluid/filter change -use synthetics. No pre existing issues with my transmission I hope.

Welcome to this forum! Replace the fluid & filter periodically with the correct fluid. Don't tow, climb on inclines or off road while in overdrive. Make sure that you have a sufficient cooler for the transmission.
