You can get a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner for a couple of bucks at an auto parts store. Don't try to use carb/brake cleaner, etc. they will leave a residue on the sensors and give you problems.
Tried cleaning. Run problems persist. Stumble at idle, and power drops at speed. Is a reman ok? Going on mechanic saying I needed one previously. Help? Have some miles to put on this next week ( have been able to do most travel with my cycle lately so it's been back burner, till now.
I always try to test expensive parts to determine if they're bad before replacing them. The MAF sensor is fairly reliable except for requiring cleaning (especially after installing a newly oiled air filter). You may find this thread helpful: MAF Sensor Test Procedure
Salvage yards can be a great place for parts if you've got the time to look for the best parts car. Got an alternator for my Explorer for $13.00 and so far it's out lasted the last "lifetime guaranteed" one I bought from auto zone.
