i just installed a new audio system into my 02 x. loving life until i raise the volume a bit too much and the song seems to skip, play, skip, etc. cd is fine but i think when i hit high volumes something is happening. btw, my bass is thundering.

i upgraded my battery to a deka (needed a new one anyway :-) during this install and i don't see my lights blinking when this problem happens. so i'm not sure what to look into next.

system is setup as such:

4 - 6x8s
2 - 10" cvrs
kicker 5 channel amp
pioneer hu

any ideas are appreciated.

are all the speakers wired up to the amp? if not, then you need to amp up all the speakers, sounds like the internal amps in the head unit are struggling to send the signal out and the power being used by the amp is causing the head unit to stop it's normal functions to power the speakers.. if that makes sense...

yeah everythings wired up to the amp, i had it professionaly installed. while looking at the head unit's graphic equalizer it still moves to the beat but no sound for about 2-3 seconds.

while searching i couldn't find this exact problem but leads i have so far are the big three (wire upgrade) and higher capacity alternator. not sure i need to go that route because i would expect my head lights to dim during the pauses in music but they don't.

just cos it was "professionally installed" doesn't mean the guy's any good.
you might have a bad earth on the amp, or the head unit, the head unit might be faulty, the wiring to the speakers might not be thick enough, although you've got a new battery, it might not be good enough to take the strain of the amp, I would suggest 3 seperate amps, instead of one big one.

took it back to my installer and he pointed out that i had bass running to all speakers f/r and subs. he called my problem "clipping" where too much power was trying to be sent out and the amp couldn't get enough.

he lowered the bass almost to nothing on the f/r and everything is working as expected now.

you should have some high pass filters built into the amp, or the head unit that can also help with setting up, glad you got it sorted tho
