Hello everybody!

I've just bought a 97 Explorer and can't beleive how much car I got for the money!

A few quick questions.

It has gone 170000 km (105600 miles) and I'm worried about the cam chains. Is there anything that needs looking at / changing?

Is there any trick to get the fuel consumption down?

What's the coolest accessory to buy?

Any trick to take out the origional cassette player to change to a CD player?

Regards from Sweden!

Welcome to Explorer Forum!
I think '97 is the year that Ford fixed the timing chain tensioner for SOHC's.
Do a search for "My quest for 30" for tips on gas mileage.
The radio comes out with a tool that you can order from crutchfield or probably pick up from your local parts house or car audio store.
The coolest accesories to me are probably roof racks with fog lights. IMO.

just keep listening for the tell tail engine rap at 2K to 3K rpms otherwise just keep up the regular maintenance. There is a good chance the engine was fixed under the warranty TSB.

check out aldives quest for 30, he documented the steps he took to reach his ultimate goal of 30mpg, it is a good read:thumbsup:

Explorer forum elite status, and maybe a decal

sorry couldn't resist, that depends on taste and what you have in mind for your truck. I am a lifted 4x4 kinda guy so I started out with the TT and AAL lift, and then went to fix up the tranny for towing, and then exhaust, my next thing is tires and body lift, once I wear these tires out and have some cash.

there are 4 holes (2 on each side) there are special remover tools, but you can just use 10 penny nails with the heads smoothed out and rounded, inserted into the holes and then the radio pulls straight out, do a search you will find there is a how to in the radio section.

Regards from Sweden!

Yaaa Shurrr, Very Goot :D
