2013 Explorer Sport
Hey guys, Matt here. I bought my first Ford, a 2013 Explorer Sport, on Monday. Having come from a Suburban, I'm extremely pleased with my new rig for a number of reasons. I belonged to a forum for Chevy SUV's and those guys are awesome; I hope this forum shares the same sense of community we did on the "dark side."

So here's a test...Day five, today, I went out to start my Explorer and the key wouldn't turn. I confirmed it was fully in park, yanked on the wheel, got nothing. I had it towed to a local dealership and they told me it was probably a bad ignition cylinder. I came back an hour later with my spare key (just to make sure the chip wasn't bad in my main key) and found the cylinder had literally dropped down into the dash. I was told this was not the first one to have this happen. I was forced to rent a car (the dealership wouldn't give me a loaner since I didn't buy from them) and I have to wait until Tuesday for parts to come in. Needless to say I'm heartbroken, frustrated and a little upset with the Ford family.

So the questions are: 1. Has this happened to anyone else? (I have 343 miles on the car). and 2. Since I will have a rental for as long as I've had my brand new car, and the rental isn't covered under warranty, dealership, Ford Roadside Assistance or insurance, will FMC pick up the tab for my rental? My feeling is that since I'm paying for a car I want but can't have, and paying for a car I don't want, they should really help me out.

Thanks for reading guys, I look forward to your thoughts, and glad to be here.

Thanks, will do.

I spoke over the phone with a Ford rep and they're paying for the rental. I guess I can't ask for more than that. Hopefully getting my Explorer back today!
