I recently bought an '05 Explorer Eddie Bauer for Winter use (99k on the clock) and have noticed the dash light for "4X4 Auto" mode isn't lit even when I hit the swiitch....but the truck feels like it's pulling at all 4 wheels. The lights DO come on when "4L" or "4H" are pressed. I've tried driving it before and after pressing the "4 Auto" switch and there's no discernable change in how the truck "pulls" so I doubt it's simply a matter of a new bulb.

Is it supposed to be lit? If so, could a faulty control module (behind the glovebox) be the culprit?

Thanks in advance , guys!

On my 07, the "auto 4wd" button does not light up. If I'm in 4x4 high or 4x4 low and switch back to 4wd auto, the 4x4 high/low indicator just turns off.

Yes auto 4x4 does not have a light.

Okay, guys. Thanks! Now I can move on to the loud roaring noise coming from the rear end. It sounds like bad bearings.....at least I hope that's all it is.
