Hey all.
Since my father has a 01' sports trac, I fell in love with the explorers. Hopefully during the summer time, I should be in a position to purchase my first car, that being a 3rd gen explorer. Im still not decided on the v8 or v6 yet, whichever one will give me better mpg, is the one im going with. My dad lead me to this forum in guidance of any questions, and to read up on all the information I can on these beautiful machines! I hope to ask all questions I have and look foward to talking to you guys on the forum!

First off, Welcome to the Forum. This place has a ton of people with a wealth of knowledge. So your dad is a smart man for guiding you here. Good luck in your search for your Ex.

G'day and welcome Frank. Go the V8 mate, both engines get virtually the same mpg but you'll have more power and aftermarket option's if you decide to go down that route. V8 for sure.

Yeah, lynchy's right. The only reason I got the v6 is because I didn't want the AWD. But had known of this forum and all of the possible swap options I would have bought the v8 and converted it to 4wd. Hey lynchy, hows it going on the other side of the globe?

I'm pretty sure that's the case, but I'm only positive up till 02. After that I'm not sure. I've only had 1st and 2nd gens. Maybe some of the others who have 3rd and 4th gens could chime in. You will love your Ex no matter what your final choice is.

Going great, first day of Autumn and it's raining with 40 knot easterlies. Pretty much the same as we had all summer, bloody global warming:D.

On a 4x4 2002-2005 V8, you've got 4x4 high, 4x4 low, and 4x4 auto which is just rear wheel drive until the computer detect's slippage and automatically engages the front to maintain traction.

Yeah just gettin into spring here in the northeastern U.S. Hoping for 1 last big snow to play in, but don't think its gonna happen. Raining here too.

Sorry about the slight highjack guys.

Thanks man! Im really pushing towards the v8. As in terms of tuning the engine of a 8 cyclinder, is the best bet just getting a cai, exhaust and pcm tune?

Welcome to this forum! It's a good idea to enter your vehicle's information into your profile. Which part of NY do you live in?

Dont have any cars yet! So once i do purchase one I will add my information. I live in Westchester County. I assume you live in Brooklyn?
