1999 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello,
I am new to the Ford game and need advice on how to make my 1999 Explorer a bit quicker and get better gas mileage too...
So what is the single biggest gain in bolt on's...exhaust, power programmer, CAI, cam change...?

Thanks for any help

go faster AND save gas?

trade it for a mustang.

other than that, you didn't provide any useful information.. such as what engine you have, what mods are already done, etc.

You mean like this...lol

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately the explorer is not known for getting great gas mileage period even without the go fast parts. If you are looking to get better gas mileage OR performance, there are several sections on the forum that you should check out for more info!

It's a 1999 5.0 XLT AWD, STOCK! And why would I want to trade it for a moose-wang, they're like belly buttons, everybody has one...! Besides I don't want to drag race it just get a little more performance out of it.

Best service on the internet...really!?

Your parts ans accessories link won't even let me go any farther then adding the year of my vehicle...NICE! Bu-bye now!

It's a 5.0 explorer..... with MAF fuel injection.

that is the same as all the 5.0 (foxbody mostly) mustangs had. which means, all those mustang go fast parts will work on your explorer as well. of course those mods will prevent it form passing smog if you live somewhere you need to smog it.. here's a short list of things you can do to gain horsepower (if legal)

free flowing exhaust system (this might even help fuel economy). it will also gain a tiny bit of horsepower (more if you have other mods) dollar for horsepower, this is your best mod.

after that, sky is the limit.. how much money do you have to spend? i assume you will be having a mechanic do the work for you, or a friend?

good aluminum heads with smaller combustion chambers... say, edelbrock RPM heads, or AFR if you can afford it..
aluminum heads will allow for higher compression, and the smaller combustion chamber will get it.

cam upgrade.... don't go too big though or you'll loose torque (and MPG)

throttle body upgrade, k/N air cleaner, etc.

then of course there are turbo and superchargers.

what im trying to say is, if you have $5000 or more to spend, (and some mechanical know how) you can easily double your horsepower.
