I was given a 91 Ex recently. 4 wheel dr., high miles, good motor, lift kit, big Thornbird tires. The ? is: This thing is all over the road !!! Downright scary sometimes. I was told there was no cure for this, and that Fords are "just that way" when you put big tires on them. True statement? Where to start looking for problems?

Not true, Fords arent "just like that". First off, those Thornbirds probably arent helping out very much. Try getting and alignment and seeing if that helps.

Yea you got some worn parts. They will tell you what when you align.

I'll do that. What type of tires do you guys think will work well? This will be a "mostly" highway truck, with some casual off roading on the weekends.

What size tires are on it now?

And how big is your lift?

Do you still have the swaybars on? The guy before you didn't take them off did they?

snocross1985, thats a good check!!!!!!!!

I'll check the size tonight. I've got a picture that I'm trying to figure out how to post so y'all can see what I'm dealing with.

edit: 33x12.5x15, 4" lift, still has swaybars on it.

I'd agree that the Thornbirds aren't helping. They're not even radials, are they?

As for what tires to suggest, I'd say BFG ATs since the truck will be mostly on the road. They have the most aggressive tread pattern out of the ATs. They are great in the snow, on the road and offroad (except for mud obviously). I have them in the 31x10.50 size on my Jeep and love them. No complaints. However, my next set will be BFG MTs.

BFG's or Procomp. I love my Xterrains.

The biggest problem I think is deffinatly your tires Thorbirds are bias ply only! I had a similar problem with my 93X when I put a set of Swamper TSL's on it ( maybe not quite as bad as your problem) but I replaced them with Swamper STS's about a year ago which are radials and it made a 100% improvment in the way it drives. If your not going offroad to often I highly recommend the BFG AT's also. They get great traction and last forever . I have a set of 31x10.50x15 on my wifes Jeep Cherokee and I love them.

That is sweet...a XL 2 door with a red interior...pretty rare indeed

Are red interiors really rare? LOL. I hate red interiors, but that's what I got.
