im wondering if anyone has done this or knows if it will work to get the navigation radio out of a newer expedition, f150, explorer whichever ones theyre in and put it in a 3rd gen explorer. i know the way it bolts in is different but the plugs on it look the same as my 04. if anyone knows if this will work or has done it please let me know.
thanks

Despite looking the same, I'd make sure and check out the wiring pin-outs before dumping all that cash into an OEM unit...

I had looked into this but I think the newer unit is physically too large. The closest I found was the nav unit that came in the Continental and Aviator. While it is a DD, the faceplate didn't match the cutout in the 3rd gens. Once you overcome that by sourcing a faceplate that might work, then you have the issue of the splash screen showing Lincoln rather than ford (minor) and different color scheme. If you decide none of that bothers you, then you get to source the DVD drive (mounts behind 3rd row in jack storage) wiring harness and gps antennae.

Since my project goal was just to add MP3 disc capabilities, I went another direction. But keep us posted if you decide to tackle this, it'll be an interesting read.

one of my friends bought a 2010 f-150 and he took out his factory cd player and put in an aftermarket one. now his is not the navigation system but i do believe its still the same size so im going to see if it fits in there tuesday. i will let you guys know how it goes hopefully it will work. the reason i want to put a factory navigation system in is because i still want to use my steering controls and my rear dvd player without having to do anything with my factory harness.
