No cold air/compressor problem??

Hey guys i need a little help.I bought my 2000 mounty a month ago.I know they charged the ac when i bought it cause it was just blowing hot.Its been ice cold since.Well i get in yesterday and no cold air,its just blowing regular air.So i started it up and turned it on max,and watched the compressor.It starts stops every couple minutes.It'll strat turning then stop and so on and so on.Any ideas?? What could it be???
