91 explorer 4.0 lit.- My heat does not blow hot anymore, I drove it for about 2 hours and the whole ride it was barely blowing warm. The temp gauge never moved the whole time and was on, if not below the C the entire ride. There is coolant in the recovery tank, and I am not sure what the problem is, (thermostat etc.) Also where is the thermostat on the 91 explorer located and how easy is it to replace. Sam

sounds like the thermostat may be the problem.....

thermostat

Where is the thermostat located? And is it easy to replace?

The thermostat is on top on the intake at the end of the upper radiator hose. First remove the air intake assembly, then the upper radiator hose, then the 3 bolts that hold the therm housing on. I believe all the bolts are 10 mm. One of the housing bolts is a bit difficult, but if you have a thin wall 10mm you should be ok. When you buy the thermostat, make sure you get the o-ring gasket as well. Normally that is sold seperately.
