Like the title says, I have a 94 with the 4.0 v-6 and have no heat. Well it is my girlfriends vehicle. It completey stopped working a couple days ago but before that it would happen periodically. The fan works and she says the temperature rises to the normal position. My hope is that it is the thermostat but with the temp. being normal I am afraid it could be worse, heater core, etc. If I wanted to go ahead and change the thermostat, where is it and is it an easy change on the Ford?

Thanks

Joe

Thermostat is at the front of the lower intake. Drive it 10 minutes first before you bother changing it....... if it gets up to normal temps its not the stat and more than likely will be a plugged heater core (if the fan is working and there is cool air coming out of the vents).

Within the normal range, where does the needle usually sit, or does it vary in each vehicle?

I was just able to look at the SUV. It had been driven for about one hour prior to me getting in it and starting it up. The temp gauge went to between the O and the R, in normal. Is that good? So I turned the heat on high and hot and received cold air, got out and opened the hood. All the hoses weren't warm at all, but the more I messed with them, they started to warm up. I squeezed the one coming out of the top of the radiator and felt the ones going into the firewall. After doing that a few times, I got in the SUV and had heat. It was coming out quite strong.

Any ideas???

James T hit it right on the nose, but fisrst i'd check the fluid. Make sure it is full with no air locks. Squeeze the hoses going to the heater core after it is good and warm. They should both have equal pressure and temp. This may help. Good luck! Definately try the themostat. very easy and inexpensive job.I don' know what it is, the change in seasons or what but thermostats love to fawk off in the spring. :can: :chug: :us:
