When I purchased my 2016 Explorer, I had a low battery warning light. They replaced the batteries in the Fob and it was worked ever since. Yesterday, my son got stranded at school when the Fob wouldn't work. I had to get someone to drive me to school with another set of keys. He uses the Fob everyday and we had no warning. Have we turned something off? I called the dealership but they were no help. Even worse, I called Ford--what a waste of time. I'm not even sure the young lady in the Philippines understood what I was talking about.

There is a spot to place the FOB in if the battery in it is dead. Look in the owners manual for the location. For the 17 it is in the compartment in between the seats see page 165 and 166.

As far as I can see there is no setting for that warning. Also, I don't think your trip with the extra key was necessary. The fob has a key blade inside of it that can be used to unlock the driver's door. Then all he would have to do is insert the key fob in the slot inside the console in order to start the vehicle. See page 164 of your Manual.
