1996 awd v8 i have checked coolant there are no leaks the fans blow but cold only .could it be the knob thats shot ?wouldnt the rear heater still work?is there any other part it could be ?......i need help.its still cold up in bc canada

if the temp gauge on the truck is working and reading normal, it most likey means something failed inside the heater controls. i think most of the stuff is vacuum controled so you could start with checking for a vacuum leak when the heat is on. if its not something vacuum controled, its some kind of cable/pushrod has come loose, or maybe the heater core got plugged up somehow

i just read another post on no heat, they recomended making sure there was enough coolant.

I had this problem a few years ago and it was a bad t-stat. Replaced it and I had heat again.

I just went trough this last week. Turned out to be the thermestat. not a problem sence.

I had a similiar problem on an onld Bronco II. Turns out my heater core was clogged. Fluid wasnt able to circulate properly.

I would back flush it and replace the t-stat first and then go from there.

Had the same problem on my 95, turned out it was the vaccum control for the switch. It got stuck on cool. Problem is that its deep in the dash. Part was cheap but labor hurt my checkbook.

I don't know about the V8 but both my 95 and 96 have a control valve on the heater hose right by the A/C plenum on the left side of the motor. Make sure the lever is down, this lets coolent flow into the cabin. My 95 had the problem where it would stay closed causing no coolent to flow into the heater core. I just pulled the vacuum line on it and pluged it. No problems since.
