No rear ABS ring in new diff, what kind of problems?

97 Ranger 3L 4x4 7.5" rear with 3.73 trak lok, but it's DARNED similar to my wife's 98 Explorer 8.8.

What's different is the ABS system, which is rear wheel only and hasn't worked worth a durn for 3 yrs. My truck and I got centerpunched and the body shop that State Farm had me go to replaced the whole axle assembly with a junkyard pull. This was rusty and of unknown age/mileage, so it was not a real shock that the lsd was worn. Nor was it surprising when the spider gears finally ground up. Instead of new gears ($100) and new clutch plates ($60) I decided to buy a whole new Ford Motorosports Trak Lok for $216 from Randy's.

Given there's no ABS tone ring on the new diff, what prolbems should I expect?

The rear ABS is a great idea with a useless implementation - I've had the rear brakes let go (you can feel it) even off road, instead of piling mud or snow up it lets go. Seems to me that my wife's Explorer shuts down the ABS in 4 Lo, b/c I sure jams the mud and snow up just fine.

Any things I should worry about? Am I going to have an angry ABS light (no biggie) or something more serious?

Thanks,
Brian in CA

The body shop used a junkyard diff and axle of unknown age? How nice of them. I wonder if State Farm would be happy to hear that.

At any rate, other than the ABS light, I don't see any problems. If I were you I would consider tearing the dash apart and removing the bulb for the ABS light, since it will probably be on all the time.
