Double whammy. Reverse lights not functioning and Overdrive not turning off. So far I checked the fuse #26 was a little crusty but it's cleaner now and I can hear thinga clicking on when I plug it while ignition is powered. Going to test the transmission range sensor (automatic) . Wire looks good on the overdrive.

Is there a guide here to test the transmission range sensor?

Check fuse #27. Had the same problems (plus no auto-locking, or rear defroster) on my 2000 Mountaineer when I bought it. Turned out fuse #27 was missing. Put a fuse in the slot and everything worked.

Wow that did it! I feel when I was checking fuses on a different incident a week ago I may have put a fuse back in wrong spot... I was haVing climate control issues. How did I ever make it this far?

As my fuse was completely missing I had no way of knowing someone had removed it. One day another member mentioned he'd done something and blew fuse #27, which then made his backup lights inoperative. This made me go hmm... Sure enough, that was the problem. I tested my theory by pulling fuse 27 on of my '01 EB and then had the same symptoms as the '00 Mountaineer.

Doesn't it feel good to find such a simple (inexpensive) solution? :)

Yes feels great! It also feels great to be the gremlin Instead of chasing one . Next I need to work on door latches, all those little internal springs have faded into history. It has taken me a while to figure that is the cause of everything else going whacky in the whole automatic lock system.
