HI All. I was hoping someone could relate to this.
I have a 97 explorer Sport 4.0.
Been to the dealer twice to no avail, the problem is The truck runs great, I drive for a bit, park it for about oh 5 minutes, and bang, she cranks but dont start.
If I wait another 5 min utes or so, I may get lucky and it will start up and run fine.
I cannot get it to repeat the problem at a dealership or repair shop.
Has anyone had this problem before? I was thinking maybe the crank sensor is getting too hot?
Please any help is appreciated!

I also wonder of the coil itself would be the culprit.
Please i hope someone can help.

I have seen similar problems due to faulty O2 sensor(s).

Good luck.....

Thanks for the reply Im tempted to buy all 3 parts and say screw it.

PUt both o2 sensors in, replaced the coil, and the crank sensor.
Lets see if it still happens.
Those o2 sensors are a *******.

I recently had a no start condition on my 95. It would just crank and then after a few atempts start up. The last time it did this it would not start for many atempts. I checked the coil and fuel pressure. Fuel pressure was not there. I feared it was the pump. After more testing of things I decided to replace the fuel pump relay and that was it. No more problems. Thank God it was only the relay ($7.60) and not the pump ($240).

Thanks for the reply!

I bought one just in case, Im about to run outside and pop it in. It was cheap so I figured..why not.

Well its been about 2 weeks, I changed the crank sensor, coil, fuel pump relay and both oxygen sensors, and it hasnt happened again.......knock on wood.
Even the dealer couldnt catch a code with the scanner before I changed the parts.
I wish I knew what the culprit was or if I actually fixed it.
