I recently did an engine swap and finally mated the engine up with the trans. Now after starting it up none of the gears engage and there is no trans fluid being run through the cooling lines. What do I do?

Check the fluid level?

Yes, it has plenty of fluid. Anything else I can try?

Are you checking it with the engine running?

Also are you sure the torque converter was seated in the trans - it could be that the TC isnt engaging the pump.

yes, I am checking with the engine running, and what do you mean by the torque converter needing to be seated, how would I know if it is or not? thanks for the reply

When the T/C goes in it needs to engage the pump in the trans- if you had the engine out the torque converter may have dislodged from the pump- It would be difficult to get the engine bolted back in- but not impossible. Did you have any problems with the engine to trans bolts ? Converter nuts to flex plate? Is the trans pulled up tight to the engine?

The T/C goes in and then you need to rotate it to line up the flat spots on the input shaft- did you check the T/C before you put the engine back in?

I would check the pressure on the trans first - port on driverside above linkage- see if you have pressure. If not I would assume some sort of pump problem- if you had the engine out then the torque converter input is a good bet- it drives the pump. Pull the starter take a look at the flex plate and T/C studs - they flush with each other? Unfortunately you will need to pull the engine/or trans out again and check the pump engagement Im afraid.

The trans worked before the engine was pulled correct?

When I first tried mating up the trans I had problems with the engine to trans bolts, but I had to pull the trans down and back and then put the TC directly on the trans and aligned the flat spots then bolted it right up with the flywheel while rotating the engine. I guess I will check the pressure on the trans, what do I use to check that? and what if I do have pressure? I appreciate your help, because this has been one big headache. Thanks

thats strange... Are you sure the trans you got works? Are any of the cooler lines kinked?

yes, its the original trans and worked fine before I swapped engines
