Hi I have an 05 ex with rsc system. When I'm on the highway or a windy road it makes a noise when I turn. Kind of like a rubble. Also the noise only comes when I'm turning the wheel left. Even makes the noise when switching lanes.then goes away when the wheels straighten

And now I just noticed when I am going in reverse and turn the wheel it makes a loud squeak. Only when the wheel is almost turned all of the way.

Sounds like a rear wheel hub bearing. Read the threads on that. Read my thread. I just changed my right hub and bearing.

The squeak is coming from the front. I think it's the brake calliper maybe. It happened to Mr before on an old Chrysler. When I would back up the calliper was kind of froze up and it would squeak. The rumble seems like it's up front too

You could pull the wheel and have a look see. With the weight off the wheel you should not have any up and down play. You can also check the pads and rotors at that time.

The passenger side tire had a lot of play both up and down and side to side. Could not really tell where it was loose. I did have a problem at my last oil change. The passenger side wheel bearing hub bolts were all loose. I did not check to see if they loosened back up. I will check tomorrow.

If not, these are notorious for eating the original upper ball joints prematurely. Make sure there is no play there.

If you determine that the Wheel bolts are in fact tight, then you must determine if you have more then one issue. My worn out hub bearings no longer rolled smoothly. With the rear bearing, you could feel the clicks as you rotated the hub. With the front bearing on my mustang, there was less clicking, but the up and down movement only affected the hub and not the ball joints. you should be able to look at the joints as you move the hub up and down. Unlike old style axle bearings that were tightened into place by the axle nut, the hub bearings are a part of or pressed into the hub and tightening the hub bolt will have no effect on the play generated by worn out bearings. Loose tie rods will get you for and aft movement. again you should be able to see the movement in the tie rod end if it is worn.

Your description of the humming is the Explorer mating call.

Sounds like your right front bearing. Not unusual at all. I would jack up the front (both wheels at the same time), then turn the wheels by hand. The only sound you should hear, if any, is the brake disk rubbing a pad. The wheel should spin freely. Get under the car, and listen from engine side of the wheel.

Usually you'll notice a marked difference between the two wheels if one has a bad bearing.

I had the same noise when switching lanes. Changed out both front wheel bearings and it's gone now. Also replaced discs while we had it apart.

I suspected that it may be a wheel bearing. Is it easy to change? I have a friend who owns a shop I can ask him how much. He quoted me about 600 to fix the whining coming from the rear transfer case.

Well the drivers side is tight but I have UN normal wear on the outside edge of the tire. The hub bolts on the passenger side seem to be tight still. But when I shake down the tire the play seems to be in the drave shaft where it goes to the hub maybe. Also when I spin the tires up front there is clicking. Is that normal? And when the wheel is turned and I spin the tire there is a creaking noise. Sounds like the tire is rubbing something but I believe it's the rubber boot making the noise. It sounds like rubber rubbing maybe. Is that normal??

I'm thinking you have a bad wheel bearing. The rubber shouldn't contact anywhere. And the clicking while turning the wheel points me in that direction too. The rubbing could just be the brake pads being close to the rotor. They may have some slight contact at all times. When my upper ball joints went bad, all my tire wear was on the inside of the tire.

Sounds like for sure you have a hub bearing that is bad. Depending on how bad, you can get up down and side to side movement. You might also have bad ball joints, but for sure you have a bad hub bearing. Replacing the hub bearing is not a real big deal. I would replace that and then before you let it down off the jack stands you can recheck for play with other parts of the front suspension. The more parts that are worn out, the more damage that is done to the tires. You might have other parts worn, but changing the hub bearing is a good start. If you still have side to side play after changing the hub, then investigate the tie rods and bushings in the control arms. If the tire is seriously cupped, you may have to change that.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I definitely need a bearing. There's a loud noise now that starts after 35mph. At first I thought it was from the rear because it was. But now it's a lot louder and I think it's in the front. There's a good video on YouTube on how to do the bearing/hub. In the video he had a compressor and used an air hammer to knock the drive shaft out of the hub. Is there another easy way to do this? I do want an air compressor though so maybe I'll just buy one lol.

That's the same method I used. A hammer can be used, but care must be taken not to damage the threads.

Is the rear just as easy? All of the sudden I started getting a loud clicking/binding noise from the rear passenger side. Jacked it up and the passenger side tire has play when I shake it up and down. The noise went away after I had it parked. But it comes and goes. It starts after 15mph. Doesn't matter if I'm turning or not. And doesn't go away of I hit the brake.

No it is not easy at all. You have to release the hub assembly from the upper and lower ball joints. That can be quite an operation all by it's self. Then you have to take the assembly to a repair shop that has an industrial size press and they have to press the assembly apart and then reverse the procedure to put it back together again. Then there is the issue of the parking brake. Not sure about the 05, but the 03 has old style brake shoes inside the rear rotors. They wear out and fall apart. The best time to do them is when the rear hub assembly is apart. Otherwise they would be a real pain to install. Two different mechanics told me not to bother fixing the parking brakes. The rear hub at it's cheapest is about $115. on the internet. Around here I can get the pressing done for about $35. per side. The most labor intensive part is the removal of the hub assembly from the rest of the rear suspension assemblies. I had my nephew do the hub removal and reassembly. I would hate to ask how much the job would cost done completely at a shop.

yeah I actually saw the write up on the rear bearing. I will gladly do the front bearing/ hub myself but im not comfortable enough tackling the rear. im going to take it in for that. now I know when the bearing goes bad it makes a growling or howling noise. is it possible to make a loud clicking noise or maybe binding? mine started doing that. a few weeks ago I was driving and it starting making the noise. I stopped in a parking lot and checked it out. couldn't notice anything hanging or rubbing. I went to the store, when I finished and left, the noise disappeared. yesterday it started again and seems louder. along with a loud growl/whine. I originally suspected it to be the transfer case. the rear wheel does have play when I shake it up and down. I just never heard a clicking before from a bad bearing. but ive always fixed them as soon as I noticed they were bad. Also the tire there is balding on the outside all of the sudden it seems.

Well I took it in for the noise coming from the back. I knew one bearing was bad my mechanic said both were. It ran me 572 for both bearings. Now I just need to change the front and hopefully the noise while turning the wheel to the front will go away.
