Noisy belt tensioner

I installed a new "OEM"/Motorcraft belt tension thinking it would be higher quality. Well, I'm here to tell you every single belt tensioner made for 1993-2000 OHV 4.0s are all made in the same place.

Anyways I thought it might solve my problem of clatter in 3rd and 4th gear.

Nope. This is like the 4th belt tensioner I've put on.

I guess the notch on the bracket has worn down. Besides replacing the bracket, anybody have any ideas? This is getting old. Thanks

Are you sure thats where the noise is coming from? I would think that if its in specific gears then you may have a driveline problem. Is it absolutely 3rd and forth? Auto or manual?

A tensioner noise, i would think would be related to engine RPM more than anything. Just a guess.
