hey all. names tom. glad to be here and gonna start surfin real quick. my son bought a 96 explorer. 19 years old and go excited about it and slapped down the money sight unseen. it has a body and suspensoin lift on it( i'll get some pics here soon). cant say i was too pleased with him picking it up without even lookin at it or lettin me take a look at it. it has the 4.0, auto trans, and for now thats all i can tell ya, plus front driveshaft needs a new u joint. i am quite mechanically inclined but havent done too much with 4wd. i can tell by lookin at it that it was used for some muddin. i spent about 2 hours with my pressure washer blasting dirt and crap out of the underside. i was concerned hearing about it having a lift, mainly because i know the area it came from and some shoddy shade tree mechanics around there, but it looks like it was done good. gotta pull it in and get it on jack stands and check out all the suspension. personally i think the body lift should go, but he's 19 and "it looks cool!!"
i am already thinkin i might like this truck to work on and teach him some wrench turnin while workin on it. i already have been goin through my mind a new paint job and thinkin what would look good. it needs some new rockers and some rust repair, but its not that bad body wise.
so i'm sure ya'll will be gettin a lot of questions from me comin up in the near future, but i am gonna take a break for thanksgiving, then we'll go from there.
ya'll have an awesome thanksgiving!!! tom
