Hi everyone, n oob to SUVs here, ex mechanic for a Taxi company, where my first exposure to Explorers was, shall we say, less than convincinf (I believe we got all the bad years of 'exploders' that grenaded their engines at 150k miles when I worked there.
I'm thouroughly sick of today's cars with their sideways engines and cramped engine bays, but not willing to have a vecicle where your cargo just sits out in the open for people to steal (aka pickup) So, with my latest car down for intake gaskets (01 chevy Lumina with Cal emissions, it's a nightmare everytime you have to do anything to it) and while in the process of fixing it an hour here and an hour there, ran across a 1991 Explorer (the gen whose looks I actualy like) and got it for $1200.
That's above book, but this is an area where all the kids want 4x4s, so anything 4wd goes for a premium
Despit being an ex machanic, I am not verry familiar with Explorers, and she has a few issues, so I may be asking question here and there.
I am surprised how much I enjoy driving this vehicle, it's much more pleasant than I thought it woul be, and research has shown me that these years of explorers were actualy good vehicles, so hopefully this will be a long term relationship with this vehicle :exp:
