OBX Project in VA, newbie wants a beach config.

Newbie here- sorry if a similar topic has already been posted.

On my newly acquired '92 Sport, all stock (auto trans, electronic 4wd). I want to turn this thing into a reliable truck for limited off-road use; Outer Banks and other beaches, not much else...about 25% off-road/75% daily driver. My budget is very limited, but I plan on doing this build over time and use quality parts and do most of the work myself. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start, what to use, and where to go in Norfolk/Va Beach to get it?

you need to define you goals a little bit more. imo. i wouldnt go bigger then 33s if you just beach run and want an effective dd. I dont really know first gens too well, but i just wanted to add my thoughts...

You have a great platform to start for use on a beach. I'd suggest getting a aux. tranny cooler plus manual hubs if yours are automatic hubs. With driving on sand, air pressure is key, I'd suggest running 15-20 PSI. I used to take my truck thru the DE & MD beaches to surf fish and would often run at 20 PSI or less depending on conditions.

A real shovel and tire pressure gage should be first. Tires 31x10.5 (32x11.5 if they will fit and you have the $$) all terrain on stock rims, K & N drop in filter, 2" (spacer and add a leaf), cat back exhaust, on board air compressor, tow hooks, synthetic lubricants, rear locker or limited slip differential. If you spend a lot of time on the beach add a second battery. These mods are all over this site, use the SEARCH for this site for more info, and are realivetly inexpensive.

Yeah what he said.

33's are a bit big to be a DD. Your gas milage will suck & so will the ride. You don't have to spend alot of $$ for you goal.
