Ok, so I honestly could not figure out the proper section to post this...
2005 Lincoln Aviator: A few days ago I was cleaning around the dash, and was wiping around the floor/console shifter, and when getting the leather boot thing, I noticed the shifter knob lift up a bit. All of the sudden, I realized it would not shift out of park. After some searching, I figured out the problem, and was able to somewhat fix it enough so that the truck is move able. Don't worry, I wasn't stranded anywhere. It happened at my brother's mechanic shop. Its waiting for a safety certificate, before it can put it on the road, so I still can't legally drive it off the lot yet.
However, I did notice in the mists of "fixing" the "won't shift out of park" issue, I noticed the 2 black wires inside the shifter, for the OD button were broken. Looks like a previous owner before the guy I bought it from had the same issue I did, and was a little too rough in figuring it out.
So here's the question..... with the OD button wires broken, I assume the OD button will no longer work, and I won't be able to turn the OD off... but, will the transmission still go into overdrive as it should, or will it stay in 4th gear, until get the wires fixed?
