I want to finally pursue my tranny issues.

The transmition is completely fine under city driving no jerks, stumbles hesitation etc...

When i get on the interstate and put on cruise at 70 mph the torque converter locks in and out constantly and after about 5 times of unlocking the OD light starts flashing and will not lock again after that. The rpms sit at 2500 at 70 mph and go up to 2800 when the converter unlocks. If i am not in cruise it still goes in and out of overdrive but no matter how many times the light will not come on but the tranny seems to constanyl be hunting to keep speed. This usually only happened when i would tow something but now that i have 31's the extra effort to turn the tires make the OD flash.

Now that you know the senario to get it to come on here are the after symptoms.

Once the light starts flashing it will no longer go into overdrive or lock the converter so i cruise at 2800 rpm. Now when I slow down the 2-1 shift is a loud clunk which you can feel through out the vehicle and it triggers the ABS and you can feel it through the brake pedal. When i accelerate from a dead stop you can feel a shudder or a slip before the truck starts moving then the shifting is very hard but the hardest is the 1-2 shift. When i stop and turn off the car the OD light stops flashing but the symptoms remain until I let the truck sit over night.

Also the truck sometimes wont start or idle unless i give it gas to keep it running then eventually it will run correctly but it is gettign worse.

Now i tried to get autozone to pull the tranny code but they said unless the check engine light is on they cant pull it. IS THAT BS???

Now after A LOT of searchign this is what i have learned.

Throttle position sensor gone bad-the engine will not want to start and stay running very easily if this is bad, also can cause the shudder or hesitation feeling when accelerating from a stop making you think the tranny is slipping, also can cause the torque convert to not lock up correctly at speed

Torque converter solenoid- gone bad and not letting the truck stay in overdrive causing it to throw OD light

Transmission speed sensor on back of tranny gone bad-I have read this messes up truck the most when using cruise ocntrol and effects the 3-4 shift and overdrive. It also creates the clunk when slowing down and activates the ABS because the truck doesnt know actual speed and thinks tires are slipping.

Now since i cant get anyone to read this i want some opinions on whioch sensor to replace first. Im replacing the TPS first for the starting issues. Just let me know your experieinces. I dont think anything is broken inside tranny because it is super smooth and shifts great until you get on intstate and it hunts in and out of OD. Please help me...

Any transmission shop should have a good quality scanner to retrieve these codes. Never replace any parts unless you know what the code numbers are. I could see two problems from your description. Never tow in overdrive. This will cause the transmission to work harder than it should, and hunt for the correct gear ratio everytime you go on & off of an incline. The second issue is that you have 31" tires. There is a way to recalibrate the computer to compensate for the tire size. The cruise control thinks that the vehicle is running at a different speed because of these tires. The shift pattern will be thrown off as well.

test the TPS before replacing

The TPS is fairly reliable and easily tested. I suggest that you test it before replacing it: TPS Test Procedure

Your engine start problems may be due to low fuel pressure. Has it been more than 30,000 miles since your fuel filter was replaced? You could have a clogged filter or weak fuel pump. You may want to get your engine running properly before attacking the transmission problem.
