i went to mr. transmission, he tried to rip me off i think any ideas on what he said?
well i went to the shop. the guy said that it was something wrong in the transmission and that he would have to drop it, and the transfer case. he said the noise was coming from the transfer case., and that my car wasn't going into 4th gear all the time (at 35 mph)
now, he also said my light i had on at autozone, the code they gave me, was the code for a solenoid.
now, he also said my 4th gear wasn't going into gear all the time. now couple that with me not hearing the noise when i slow down all the time, plus the code is for the solenoid, plus i'm not going into 4th gear all the time... this sounds like it could be a solenoid problem right? are solenoids expensive to replace? the noise sounds like an electric motor, NOT gears grinding. and if this was gears my transmission would have given out a long time ago. this noise i've been hearing erratically has occured for the past 3 months. i've driven it about 7000 miles in that time. i highly doubt my transmission would have lasted that long if something was mechanically broken inside it. any ideas?
the fact he didn't want to scan it with the code machine, he just said 'its something in the transmission, it needs to be dropped with the transfer case, i think thats just bogus. is there any tests that can be done to the transmission besides dropping it? valve pressure tests? testing the solenoids? testing the torque converter? how much for those tests, if they are possible without removing the transmisson? please someone!
My check engine light has been going on and off the past 2 weeks. The overdrive light does not come on unless I push the button though. I just got this code from going to autozone, P0 1762, a google search turns up "Overdrive Band Failed Off"
Anyone know how serious this problem is? How much it will cost to fix? I read one person had a

Out of specification pressures controlled by the transmission main control valve body separator plate may be the cause.
I'm thinking the one in bold may be my problem, or a bad solenoid. The transmission still shifts fine. However the past week having cruise control set to 60 mph the rpm's were bouncing from 2 to 2 1/2, on a flat road. The car drove fine yesterday. Could this be related to code? On second thought my right tired was flat, so maybe the increased rpm's were related to the tire slipping because it was partially flat. Also my car has been making a strange noise the past few months as I wrote in another thread. One mechanic said it could be the transfer case clutch solenoid sticking some making the noise, the noise is like an eletric motor whirring. Perhaps its the transmission pump I'm hearing? Cause I have a blown gasket in the transmission?
"Check engine on, is this a switch/solenoid problem or is a band adjustment truely needed?"
except my check engine light is going on and off.
