Can anyone help me identify the source/cause of this odd noise? As you can see in the videos, the noise seems to travel out the snorkel. I can hear the AC cycling off and on, but I can't tell if that coincides with the noise because it does it when the AC is turned off. I have included links to 2 videos. Thanks in advance for any help.

Wait, where's the snorkel? I got my hopes up thinking I was going to see a snorkel on a GEN3, only to be horribly disappointed....

As far as your question........kinda sounds like air going through water and creating a bubble?

I have a sound very similar but quite a bit less noticeable on my 02 4.6 Mount.
I did change out the intake tube to a K&N but went back to the K&N filter with the stock tube. What does this have to do with it? Well, I noticed definite changes in throttle shut down noises with the K&N tube over stock.

Verify that the noise happens when you give it throttle and quickly shut-off throttle (same thing if your AC is cycling). If you hear the noise it is just typical intake noises. Thats why Ford put that little square box attached to your intake (btwn your MAF and Throttle Body). The square box gives the moving air a place to go when you quickly shut the throttle down. At least thats my theory, based on my own vehicle.

Also check all the rubber hoses attached to your intake tube are connected.

Oh, the videos are a nice touch, even better than pics....I hope you've started a trend.

I'm not giving it throttle in the videos, it's just idling. This is a noise that has developed in the last half year. I have owned the truck since new.

If you are sure that it is intake tract noise:

Check to make sure your intake is securely on at the engine side and at the airbox end. Take off you engine cover and open up the throttle (from engine side) and quickly shut it down. Do you hear it with the throttle open?

The only thing I can think of is your IAC valve is acting funny or you have a hole in the intake tract, one of which is causing the "farting" sound....
Do you have problems with too low idle or too high? Or fluctuating Idle?

my V8 sounding bad at the air filter cover

What is the sensor up by the air filter cover and it's purpose?

My noise (throaty air sound) is coming from that area or up the air tube before the throttle body.

If I put my finger on the sensor the motor shuts off

Any thoughts?

Thanks

solved!!!

Well after a couple days now, the air howling has stopped after cleaning the sensor.

Used brake cleaner and quick air blast, thanks forum
