I have a 96 4.0 XLT.

How many oxygen sesnsors are there on this. I can only find 3. 1 on each exhaust from manifold. then 1 after the cat. I read once there are 4.

Also I just got 4 new 31's(bf AT's). But i still only have the 235/75/15 spare for now. Is it safe to use that If i get a flat or whatever. or should i go and get another 31 asap?

Thanks

You have 3 O2 sensors on your 96. Two before the cats, and one after the cats.

For sure, get another tire of the same size for your spare. Different size tires spin at different speeds... this will bind up your differential and screw some stuff up.

Very good point, which makes you wonder.
On the new Ranger FX4, which comes with Lim. Slip and 31" tires, why did they put a 235/75 spare? If you have a flat on the back axle you have to change a front tire to the rear and then put the spare on the front axle.

Brilliant!

For the same reason my '97 4x4 Sport came with 30.1" tires and a 27.4" spare, it takes a lot of hammering on the underside to get a larger tire to fit under there. I was able to get a 30X9.5" tire under there with my hitch. It's funny that my Owner's guide states that "some vehicles may be equipped with a smaller, temporary use only spare". However when Ford redesigned the rear of the Explorer in '98 the '98 Owner's Manual states something like "the use of a smaller spare tire than the rest of the tires may cause damage to the drivetrain."

Hey Robert,

Does that pic of your truck in your signature show the TT/shackle lift as well as the body lift?

How hard was it to install the body lift?

Yes, both body lift and torsion twist were installed when I took the picture. The body lift wasn't hard. It's only a matter of turning a bunch of bolts, drilling some out, jacking up the Explorer, etc. If you can do that, figure on a weekend for you and a friend to do it. I did the lift on a Saturday and lifted the bumpers the next day with the help of a friend.
