Offered a 01 XLS no reverse 105K miles

Tow truck driver who hauled my broken Suburban to the shop said his company has a really clean 01 XLS for sale. It is currently tagged. 105k, was a car stolen from a lot (with the key), recovered but the company does not want it back.

Redish, 4 door, very clean, odom shows 105k. Engine bay clearly shows it was detailed.

NO REVERSE>

On the door jam is a long list of service. From 30k up. But no trans service. I pulled the dipstick. Brown. Yuck.

What ya think? Grab it, clean fluid with TransX or another cleaner, see if the valve body will give up the reverse plunger that probably is stuck?

Without test driving, you have no idea what else is, or could be wrong with it. What engine does it have? Does it have 4WD? $500, maybe.

I have a 200k trans that came from a 99 XLT 4x4, I scored with luck a rebuilt trans off Ebay for $600, so it swapped when we did the chains on that model

title is clear, tags til Sept 19 my guess is the valve body could be swapped out

Maybe worth it if the body/interior are nice, but SOHC + transmission problems means lots of potential mechanical issues.

I would only get it if you are prepared to pull the trans and replace rear timing guide. Luckily they can be done at the same time.

clean as far as I can see, I will know if 105K is actual today when I take a look at the upper balljoints...
