Greetings!

I just want to say hello to everyone and thank you for all the good advice and replies I got from the "Not officially a memeber" thread.

We got a 97 SOHC with a tow package. We bought it from a Ford dealership and they let us talk to the previous (and only) owner. He said he never did any pulling with it, and that confirms my observations on how well it runs and the smooth and snappy acceleration.

However the dreaded camshaft tensioner problem came up. But fortunately, the delaership still owned it and had to fix it. From my research, this was the campaign that had the warranty extended to 72,000 miles, and the vehicle is past that, so it was lucky that this was taken care of before we bought it. I hope that this particular problem doesn't surface again.

I have no idea if the other engine problem was ever fixed (the timing chain thing). The warranty on this problem goes up to 100K, so we have some time to see how it goes.

My wife loves this thing. She use to have to cram our two kids plus any daycare kids in our Jeep CJ-7. The kids love the CD player. I feel pretty confident about using it to pull a big trailer, but we will see.

Very nice vehicle, very good deal.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your new Explorer!

Good job checking on that tensioner as well! So do you still have the CJ-7? It's good to keep around for fun. My brother-in-law has one that he is looking to sell (if he can let go of it). He had a 350 small block ready to go into it too. Oh well.

The SOHC is a great engine and I am sure you'll be happy with it, Lord knows I wish I had one! Glad you found an X and glad you found us!

Happy postin'!:)
