I gotta problem. My 98' started idling like a pro street rod today. I noticed it when I pulled into a Walmart parking lot today. I idled through the parking lot to see what it would do and it stalled. So I start it back up, pull into a parking space, and open the hood. The inboard hose (closer to the firewall) on the DPFE is popped off because the nipple is broke.
Sooo, I get home and take off the DPFI to find that there is a huge hole that starts on the bottom of the DPFI and runs up the back of it. It looks to be melted. My problem doesn't end with the DPFI, right behind the DPFI, there is a hole melted into the upper intake.
Im going to take the metal DPFI off my 96' to replace the plastic unit on the 98'. Now, here are my questions.
1. Aside from replacing it, does anyone have a better idea for repairing the upper intake other than with some JB Weld or Hi Temp Silicon?
2. Any idea's on the cause? I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. Could the hose that popped off the DPFI generate enough heat to do this? Say... under intense acceleration?
