Hey guys,

Its been a while. My Ex was for the most part in storage until I was involved in a multicar pile up in my Jetta TDI last winter. I took the explorer out of storage reluctantly while I worked on the insurance disaster. It was running great until one day I was flying down the interstate at about 80 and noticed a lack of power. All the gauges were fine and no lights came on and I was in the middle of no where so I didn't pull over immediatly. It was also about 20 below that night so I didn't want to be stuck on the interstate.

Once I got into a town with a gas station I pulled in and was terrified to see all the smoke. Got out of the car popped the hood and didn't see anything obvious so then looked under the car and oil was pouring out. I turned her off immediatly and called a towing company to get her home. I wasn't too far at that point. Before I turned it off I verified all the guages were alright. I then checked the oil and it was just licking the bottom of the dipstick so it might have already been too late.

My Jetta had JUST been completed the day before so I had it dropped on the street. The VERY next morning some woman in her suburban hit her at about 30. She stated she just didn't see it. Thankfully the Ex fought back and popped her radiator messed up her passenger wheel so she had to had it towed away. Just had to get that off my chest.

Anyways back to the issue. Since it was the dead of winter I didn't look into anything as I had my Jetta back. Now that its warm out I want to look into things. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas where to start? I have filled the oil up and started it up and it does run and drive. It has not leaked a drop of oil since. It is still rough and smokes like hell. The smoke does not really smell sweet, it more just smells like burning oil but it is very white in color. The antifreeze looked alright as did the oil, no milky color in either. I have not pulled the pluggs or replaced the wires yet but figured I should eliminate that since the oil under the hood could have fouled these out. The engine has 179000 original miles on it. Let me know what you guys think. I'm in no rush obviously. Sorry for the lengthy post.

I have 260k on an original engine, and I go through a quart of oil about eveyr 3 weeks or so.

Where was the oil comign out from? Can you take a picture of the area it was coming out, and also put an arrow on it so we know EXACTLY where it was coming out.

The smoke could be residual oil burning off of the block still. I have this problem when I add a quart, a little will miss and sit on the headers/engine, and when it heats up it smokes until it's gone.

A picture would really help though.
