I have noticed lately that my truck is doing something new. Any ideas would be great! Ok here goes. I have a replacement re-manufactured tranny. It has been in my truck for a little over a year and maybe 15, 000 miles on it. When I move the shift lever on the column to drive, it seems to stay in neutral. If I move the shifter to third gear, then back to drive, it works fine. It sounds like a linkage problem but why would that start now? It is not stiff to move the shifter. My main concern is that it seems to be becoming quite frequent and I really cant afford another transmission. This one is now out of warranty, thanks for the help.

Digital transmission range sensor? I’d crawl under and have a good look to make sure nothing is loose.

@airbrnmike @Mbrooks420 is right on. The Transmission Range Sensor is fastened to the left side of the outside of the transmission, and is nothing more than a multiple-position switch (as in P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1). If it loosens it's mounting, the "bumps" felt in the selector lever do not coincide with the gear choice. Held on with a couple of screws, one having a slightly elongated size, to allow adjustment of the switch. imp
