I have a 1995 Explorer XLT 4dr 4WD 4.0L V6 OHV(I don't think it's the SOHC). I have made the following modifications:
Flowmaster 40 series Cat-back
K&N FIPK
Splitfire Ignition Wires
Bosch 4+ Platinum plugs

I wish to add headers, but here's the problem. My engine has 115,000 miles on it. I am probably going to get rid of the truck and get a new at one point in the near future(within 2 years). I only have about $600 to spend(possibly $100 more) and I want to get the most out of that money. What should I do? I really want headers, but I hear even if I get the headers for around $350, I'll end up paying around $1000 when it's all said and done. Is this about right? I also want a chip and maybe throttle body spacers and possibly a new TB. Should I skip the headers and just go with the Superchip, new TB and TB spacers? Or should I stick it out with the headers and buy a Superchip afterwards at some point.....OR.....is this all just a big waste of money for a truck I'll only have for about a year and a half more?? Let me know what you think....I really need some guidance and help with this. Should I just save my money for the new truck? I know you guys are not financial advisors, but I really need some help. What should I do? I want power and I want it now, but I don't want to have to get rid of it within 2 years....HELP ME!!!!!! PLEASE!? :(

well, first, you do have the OHV because that's the only one 95's came with! anyway, to the point...if it was me...I wouldn't do headers unless I wanted to keep the vehicle, unless you could sell the truck and get enough back for it to be worth it. I would get the Superchip, cheaper than headers, hell of a lot easier to install/remove, and the gains are very cool! Headers are nice, but for the cost I wouldn't get my money's worth in a year! A new TB and spacers can be removed and re-sold much easier than headers. If ya get the new TB and spacers, when you're done with 'em...LOOK ME UP! I might take them off your hands for a fair price in a year! I plan on keeping my Explorer for as long as I can!

Well the headers can cost $1000 but thats if you have someone do it for you. If you do it yourself the cost will include the price of the headers and 4-8 hours of you time. The TB will not do much. The headers will give you more. As for the chip I dont have one so I dont have an opinion.

As for selling you truck in the near future. Do you think the price of headers or whatever you end up doing is worth the added year or two of etra HP.

Sean,
Save your money for the next truck. It don't make sense putting money into something you are not going to keep. You won't get the money you spent on it back. If you start saving up for your mods on the next truck, you will be able to put more on sooner or at least put the more expensive ones on, when you get the new truck. You can save up alot in 2 years. I guess you could spend all that money now and when you get your new truck, you won't be able to put anything on it because you already spent your money on the last truck, that YOU DON'T HAVE ANYMORE!Just my .02.
