well i just installed my old man emu shocks this weekend. got a complete set through 4wheelparts in memphis so i could get the discount. nick no longer works there by the way.
they shipped from washington state in a box that said "arb air locker" on it. when i first say that.. it crossed my mind.. hey they sent me a locker instead.. cool! oh well..
opened it up to find two N17s (part # for rear shocks) and two N15s (part # for unknown vehicle). dangit! i had to wait for more days until the N16s got here. initial impression was that the shocks seemed really beefy and sturdy. they are heavier by a decent amount than the stock shocks.
used hartmans writeup on shock install (great writeup hartman. thanks for putting the wrench/socket sizes needed) so it was a breeze to do. got it finished up and decided that we wanted to go to the movies. took wife's car. as backing out.. i look at the vehicle and there are these two HIDEOUSLY YELLOW shocks shouting "look how retarded i look on this blue explorer." i'm not kidding. these things are butt ugly! at least on a blue explorer. my wife just laughed and said "that looks really bad" i thought about this before but didn't think it would be this bad. this morning i had to take the rear shocks off and paint them black. now it doesn't look like a truck from the looney tunes!
anyway.. took it today over some speed bumps and rocky dirtroads and roads with known potholes.
my take: these shocks are definately not for someone looking for a soft cushy ride. i knew this because i looked at reviews on here and such. i really like the ride a lot. there is NO bounce after the bump. they are stiff, but i like a truck to ride like a truck. the rebound on them is instant. i have VERY little nose dive now when braking, even when braking pretty hard. i tested them about as hard as i could today without going offroad. i'm very pleased with them so far. just a warning for anyone wanting them though.. paint them first!
