Last weekend was my first major trip in my Explorer (from Kennewick to the San Juan islands). It did great going on the popular interstates (I90 to I405 to I5). I took the scenic route home via Stevens pass (hwy 2) and the Explorer really struggled going up it. On all the other roads there was no problem maintaining the speed limit, even with the ac on, but trouble up Stevens even without the ac.

So, the question is, which ONE mod will give the most 'bang for the buck'. 70mm maf? chip? other? Seems like each are $200+, and even one of these is not really affordable at this time. Any cheap mods out there that would help in this area.

Thanks again!

I'd be interested in knowing the answer to that question as well... I've been noticing a little bit of lost power on hills and just need a little more power to maintain the speed limit going up the hills WITHOUT putting it right to the floor!

i would go for the exhaust but both you poeple seem like high milage i would do an o2 sensor, clean maf, fuel filter, check air filter, plugs, wires, pcv, seafoam

Maintenance is the best performance mod.

After that, intake filter/kit and exhaust.

When I bought the vehicle in April, I did all the above. Then discovered/fixed broken OD, and added remote tranny filter, replaced RA bushings, radiator started leaking/replaced, replaced shocks (two were completely shot), replaced original muffler and still have noise (exhaust manifold gaskets need replacing), some work on the ac to get it to work this summer - hope to rebuild this winter, most recently blower motor died (I know there was more I forgot to list). But it wasn't quite enough..... And last weekend was my first camping trip of the year!

Oh, I haven't bought a K&N filter yet, but soon!

Anybody else have any thoughts for us on a budget?
