Hi all,

My question is, "How do I determine if my Explorer has Advance Trac or not (Electronic Stability Control)?"

I really can't believe NO ONE has a hint even how I can answer this question, in spite of having had 36 views!
This is after all the "Elite Explorer 911" thread

(Is there some kind of 'rule' that I've missed to get some discussion going here? Paid my $20; is there something else I've missed? I'm assuming by paying I'm exempt from having 'actively participated' as on most other forums where you are ignored until you create an online persona on that particular board)

I have a 2002 Explorer 4.6L

Last weekend on the way home from the lake, the wheel bearing on the rear right side packed it in. While checking out what the problem was, I discovered that the spindle threads are completely rusted over; there are no threads left. My idea is to buy a couple of used assemblies of the CV shaft and outer spindle, still attached to the outer hub and bearings. I want the other side as well because the rust obviously caused all this and I want to replace both sides for that reason. (I'll get into the front later to check it out, but I have to solve this rear wheel problem first)

My problem is that while looking for part numbers and cross-reference numbers, it asks whether the Explorer is with Advance Trac, or W/O Advance Trac.

I can't seem to figure it out? The only thing I can think of is whether or not I have the button with the picture of the car and skid marks; which I do not. I figure if I have the button I have 'advance trac'; no button, no 'advance trac'
I'm thinking that this may be too simple though.
Any ideas?

Being an 02 odds are it is without advanced trac, when you start a truck with advanced trac there will be a traction control light that looks like a truck/car with squiggly lines under it, not advance trac has straight lines. Most (not all) explorers built before 05 did not have advance trac or roll stability control. If it has roll stability it will also have individual abs sensors on each rear knuckle not just the one in the diff.

Yes! Thank you so much Pendow!
I'd deduced that the button with the truck/car and squiggly lines was a hint; although I read that w/o AdvanceTrac button has 'TCS' on it (as opposed to straight lines behind the truck/car).
I also ran across an Explorer that had a trim tag on the RS of the back door with 'AdvanceTrac' and with 'RSC' in red letters, another major hint.
I'm also guessing it was a pretty expensive option in '02 and therefore probably fairly rare.
I'm also suspecting that a warning light for 'AdvanceTrac' is a hint, viewable for a moment upon ignition on... mine has no such warning light.

Thanks again for your reply! I was certainly beginning to wonder what all the visits were about, but no offer of information!
