First check the fluid level and condition.

The lamp is usually caused by excessive transmission slippage or another problem the computer detects. Could be due to fluid, torque converter, TPS, or failing internals.

I was towing a trailer on vacation, changed fluid (improperly I might add) before vacation. Maybe if I do the fluid again it will help?

No sense doing the whole fluid change over again. Just make sure that the level is close to full (not over or under). Disconnect the battery for a couple minutes to clear the computer of trouble codes and try driving it again.

What's improper about the fluid change?
