overhead console, what is this?

So I had to replace the map light bulbs in the overhead console WHICH IS A PAIN IN THE ASS! and discovered a mystery. Behind the sunglass popout, there is another compartment that opens up, and is wired for something, obviously in my case, its not there. Any ideas what was stock in that location?

makes sense, seeing as I don't have an automatic garage door, I wonder what I can use it for. maybe a gps

ATM, I use mine for my HU remote. Another guy modded a CB radio external speaker into one. The possibilities are limitless.
