IMO, cracked heads from overheating are common on the V6 4.0L OHV. I wouldn't say however that the engines overheat more than any other.

So to prevent cracked heads, don't overheat the engine, sound advice for any vehicle. There's no inherent flaw in the cooling system that can be remedied for normal use.

When I replaced my heads, the new heads were noticably beefier, with proper maintenance they will last the life of the vehicle.

For details about the engines see Doug Anderson's excellent engine rebuild page.
