Here is my problem...My check engine light came on. Hooked up the obd-11 tester and it says PO141 "o2 Sensor Heater Circuit malfunction" Bank 1 sensor 2. Am I assuming correct that this is just a fancy way of saying bad o2 sensor? Also, I looked uder the truck ( 96 5.0) and I think I see what are (3) O2 sensors. 1 right under the motor and the other 2 back by the tranny. Are their really 3 or is one of these something else?

Thanks,
Ron

Engine Light and other recent problems

My Engine light has been coming on for a while now when I drive up hills or accelerate quickly. I am also getting a rattling sound in the engine at the same time and the acceleration up hills is sluggish. I am not sure what it is but remember the rattling in the engine on the old family cars when they got old growing up.

Anyway I had the tranny replace a while back and asked the dealer to check - they didn't and I was so frustrated after waiting 3 weeks for my rebuilt transmission to be installed that I had to go without them checking out this problem. I was also set back $3000 Cdn and could not take any more expensive news.

Now I have another problem - the front right bearings is shot and making a racket (or a tie rod?) but I think it is the auto bearing. I use it in 4 wheel drive every weekend up north so I think it is shot. I hope that is all.

welcome both..You might want to do a search on O2 sensor and also Fuel pressure regulator..Shoul get you pointed in the right direction..

I really need some help here. After going to wrenchhead.com to look some things up, I came up with some interesting things. first off, if anyone has changed O2 sensors on a v8 explorer, please reply to this.

Bosch Part numbers

15010 front right O2 sensor
15008 front left O2 sensor
15014 Rear OBD2 O2 sensor (2 required)

So do I actually have 4 O2 sensors?

Thanks,
Ron

that sounds right. on the newer cars there are o2 sensors before and after the cat-converters. you will have to look at the repair manual in the wiring diagram to see which side is bank 1. you might want to check the cat-converter on that side to see if its melted down. that might have ruined your o2 sensor on that side. good luck.

For my 95 4x4 Explorer O2

I need to change out my O2 sensors on my 95 4x4 Explorer.

I looked around for a bit and only found 2. How many O2 sensors do I need and are they different model #'s?

Ron, you are right, if your 96 is like my 98, there are 4 O2's. I was going to do mine a couple of months ago, and there was only one that I could have gotten to with out special tools, being a contortionist, or dropping the exhaust system. As far as which side is "Bank 1", that is the passenger side (according to my local Ford dealer). When doing the part # searching, they may have also come up with sensors that have something like a 12" harness, and some with a 16" harness. Bosch supplies zip-ties so that you can tie the excess out of the way if you get one that is too long. It might be a good idea to climb under your ride and locate all four, then see which length harness you need.

Chris, if you have the V6, I believe you only have 2 O2's. There was a thread not long ago about it.

Yes its only 2 O2's for the V6.

I'm putting them in monday.

I also noticed my Granatelli MAF was dorking my setup real bad so I put the stock one back in and I run much better but still not as good due to O2 sensors not able to go lean.

I also got a vacuum leak before the charcoal canister I have to resolve.

I replace the throttle position sensor for the heck of it.

Hopefully I can get this engine rebuild running prime soon--at first I thought it was great then quickly realized I'm not even close to prime yet with the codes I am pulling.

Well, got under the truck today and took a look. There are definatley 4 o2 sensors. One is very easy to get to, the rest..hmmmmm no chance! Looks like I will be bringning it in for this. I wonder how much thgis is going to drain the ol wallet.
