yes, that's an awesome headunit. panasonic has come a long way in the past 2 years. their headunits are really impressive. aside from looks, the performance is great. they sound perfect, and have multiple sets of high voltage preamp outputs.

the one thing I dont like.. is that the unit i linked is like, the highend unit for panasonic... and they dont have CD Text, Sat Radio ready, video outputs, or any other fun toys.

but I think it looks damn cool =p

in my opinion that stuff is cool, but a waste of time and money. i mean..do you really need the unit to tell you what you are listening to???

I'm w/ burtonsnow on this one, most of that stuff IMHO is gimmicky stuff that is unnecessary... Most CD's don't even have the CD Text info on them (maybe 1 in 10 would show up on my Sony's). I doubt I'll ever jump on the satellite radio bandwagon, if I could find alot better ways to spend the monthly charge. And as far as the video is concerned, you gotta be honest with yourself, I know I doubt I'd ever do a video install in my own car so I don't worry about video features.

yeah, you guys are right... a HU like that will rip out some real nice sound, and look good doing it.. I should be happy with that :)

The panasonic day/night deck is awesome.

one more question: I almost feel bad buying a HU that puts out 27w RMS and then buying a 40-50 w amp to replace it. Heres my question...

What im thinking about doing is this:
components in the front door, running off of a 50x2 amp.
The rear doors would be running a set of nice Coax speakers off the headunit @ 27 watts RMS.

Its either that, or buying two sets of components, and a 4x50 amp, and putting components in all 4 doors, will that really give me much of a noticable difference? how about my passengers? I like this idea more, but I feel like im wasting 27w :(

If I were you I'd go w/ option one, a 50x2 amp on a front component set and coaxials off the headunit in the back... But I'm biased b/c I really am not a fan of rear speakers, but if you want them, that's what I'd do, it would probably yield the best sound:$$$ ratio... You can get a quality 50x2 amp for a real low price.

i agree. do the first choice. get a good 50X2 amp and components for the front. run the rears off the HU for a "fill in" sound. dont waste components on the rear.

dooooh, one more question.. haha.. still doin some research..

http://crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-Ph5ldO28AOG/ProdView.asp?a=&s=0&g=300&id=essential_info&i=133DFX701

the 701 seems to be exactly like the 801 except for a 2w/10w difference. Same preamp outputs/voltage, same display with same animations, same exact features.. etc etc.... just that power difference.. and its $80.. for that $80 I saved, I could invest that into a better amp (or even a 4 channel amp)

Anyone know if theres a difference im not seeing?

if you are going to use an amp anyway, then just get the 701. there might be a few differences, but nothing major. i havent heard anything about the 701, just the 601 and 801.
