Hey Guys,

Got myself an EX about a month ago (2002 limited) plan to do a few things to it, but seeing as though its a low volume import here I'm finding it hard to get clear answers etc.

I've been reading the EF forum till I've gone cross eyed for info tips and tricks. So I've picked up a grille set, HID's , SMD for parkers and chrome blinkers.

Now I want to get a set of headers ASAP. Are JBA the only ones that make them for the 3rd gen 4.6? Will expedition headers fit? has anyone had any luck?

JBA headers for explorer are model: 1678
JBA headers for expedition are model:1677

also there are quite a few headers you can get for the expedition from summmmit.. which I buy online from.

can anyone help?

Thanks guys !!!!

The steering shaft runs real close to the headers so the JBA wont fit, and I dont think anyone does headers for an RHD explorer. You could get a custom set done at a local shop, but if your after more performance, many here including myself would recommend first getting a K&N intake, 2.5" cat back exhaust with a free flowing muffler and chop the reso, and then finally a tune. Then maybe some pulleys. If the shop is good, maybe get the headers done at the same time as the exhaust, but depends on how much is in your wallet and what ends up as best bang for buck.

How many kms on the clock? Good service history?

hi Manjina, thanks for the reply! Sucks big time about the earthquake in Christchurch all us Aussies are thinking of our mates across the Tasman mate!

..yeah I'm stuck then. I called a heap of exhaust shops the other day and none could help. They all said the same thing that it will cost at least $1500 to get a set custom made. Stuff that!! I plan on doing everything in one of two hits. Headers/exhaust/ intake/ underdrive pulleys/ tuner and tune.

Then go on from there. Maybe a new intake manifold, larger throttle and injectors. Its a freshly built 4.6 with a set of mild cams so I want to get headers to let it run right.

anyone know if te 4.6 expedition headers will fit... or come close to it. I could always get a set of the modded as they are a little cheaper.

would it be possible to get a set from the states and if u feel competent enough modifythem to suit, or see if a shop can do it for a cosiderably cheaper price

Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you use mustang headers on the ex's heads? I thought that they were also P-1 heads too? You might have to mod them because of the steering shaft. But i'm sure a universal joint and some extra tubing could fix that?

I think that they will fit the engine, it's just the clearance and the difference between a RHD and LHD engine bay. I s'pose tho' if it's going to need a custom touch to fit anyway you're probably right, and could be an option to consider.

True no matter what, something has to be modded. I know today when I was checking my fluids and etc...I was woundering the same thing. Could I fit longtubs on here without issues? I say just do intake, cat-back, and a good tune. If you really want to go nuts, I say supercharge it!

F*** yeah.

funny you mention that.... I have a procharger sitting in my garage for one of my other cars..

it's a GMH though..:D

On a serious note, so you guys reckon that a set of 4.6 mustang headers will fit pretty closely. I don't mind chopping up a set as long as they don't cost the earth to start off with. I could easily mod a set of expedition or mustang headers as they can be found much cheaper than the JBA explorer set.

loks like a VN SS commo there, is that wat the procharger is for?

Hey Morziac
Yep sorry about the late reply. Yep sure is a VN SS (had it about 8yrs) it was for it but now i'm seriously considering fitting it to the ex. Just worried about insurance.
